Phase 1

Phase 1 is a vital period in your education at the Rural Clinical School. These first 2 years of the course provide an opportunity for you to establish a base of knowledge and capability in many aspects of medicine.

Since 2017, we have offered students the opportunity to complete the full 6 year degree rurally in Port Macquarie. Currently Port Macquarie have an intake of 26 students per year.

Port Macquarie Phase 1 students receive an award-winning medical education and undertake the same curriculum and course content as Sydney-based students. Port Macquarie students enjoy the benefits of smaller class sizes and receive extensive support from Clinical Academic and Professional staff.

By the time you have finished Phase 1 you will have learned the basics of medical practice, including anatomy, histology, physiology and pharmacology, microbiology, and pathology as well as some early learning and exposure to psychiatry, paediatrics, and obstetrics and gynaecology.
Your development throughout this Phase will provide a solid foundation for you to progress to the clinical education Phases of the course in years 3 - 6.
