Keeping the Body in Mind - Physical Healthcare for People Experiencing Mental Illness

Associate Professor Jackie Curtis is Director of the Mindgardens Neuroscience Network. She is also a youth psychiatrist and internationally recognized expert in the cardiometabolic health of people with mental illness. Her translational research, a collaboration between UNSW and NSW Health, in this space has influenced clinical practice in Australia and internationally.

People experiencing serious mental illnesses including psychosis may have up to a 20-year shortfall in life expectancy, largely driven by modifiable risk factors (eg obesity, cardiovascular disease, tobacco) as well as psychotropic medications. A/Prof Curtis highlights the Keeping the Body In Mind program, integrating evidence into routine clinical care as well as the national and international research on this topic.
