Coffs Harbour Campus

Coffs Harbour campus is keen to encourage rural ILP students. The Local Health District and University are working together to increase the research profile of the Mid North Coast region. If you have a particular topic you are keen to pursue that you do not see covered by our current supervisors, please contact the Head of Campus, Alison Seccull on 6652 0444 or 0401 712 929. We will do our best to negotiate projects in other areas of interest.

Associate Professor Jo Sutherland

A/Prof Sutherland is an Anaesthetist at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus. She is also Director of the North Coast Primary Health Network, and a member of Mid North Coast Local Health District Governing Board. She is an experienced ILP supervisor and well versed in helping interested students achieve publication.

Research Interests: Peri-operative outcomes and complications, workforce

Associate Professor Peter Wong

A/Prof Wong is Rheumatologist in clinical practice in Coffs Harbour. He has a long standing interest in research and publishes regularly. He is a founder member of the Coffs Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Clinic, the first of its kind in regional Australia. He has successfully supervised students to ILP completion and publication.

Research Interests: Adult Rheumatology, Musculoskeletal Ultrasonography, Osteoporosis, Pulmonary Hypertension

Dr Kathy Kramer

Dr Kramer is a Forensic Physician who works in the Sexual Assault Service at Coffs Harbour health Campus. She also has roles as a General Practitioner at the Coffs Harbour Women’s Health Centre and in the emergency department of Coffs Harbour Health Campus. She also works as a medical editor.

Associate Professor Tom Shakespeare

A/Prof Shakespeare is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists and is the Director and Senior Consultant Radiation Oncologist at the North Coast Cancer Institute Port Macquarie. He is also the Director of Cancer Services for the Northern NSW and Mid-North Coast Local Health Districts. Prof Shakespeare has successfully supervised a number of ILP students.

Research interests: Radiation Oncology, Prostate Cancer, decision regret in Radiotherapy

Dr Alan Tankel

Dr Tankel is the Head of the Emergency Department at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus. The Emergency Department is the largest between Newcastle and the Tweed Coast with in excess of 35,000 presentations annually.  Coffs Harbour Base Hospital is the busiest rural trauma centre in NSW. He has previously supervised ILP students. Dr Tankel also serves on the panel of Senior Adjudicators and the Rural, Regional and Remote Committee for the Australian College of Emergency Medicine.

Research interests: Emergency Medicine topics by negotiation.

Associate Professor Bill Ross

A/Prof Ross is a general surgeon in Coffs Harbour with a special interest in oncology surgery, particularly breast cancer and melanoma. He is a Founding Member of the NSW Melanoma Network. In 2004 he was appointed to the RACS Court of Examiners.
