Why Go Rural?
Graduate doctors working in rural and regional Australia can enjoy a rewarding career while making a real difference to the lives and health of rural communities. The Rural Clinical School offers medical students opportunities to experience the diversity of education in rural health and medical practice in a challenging and stimulating environment. The School aims to produce competent and compassionate doctors with substantial clinical training in rural, regional and remote New South Wales - with an educational philosophy that emphasises the importance of learning in context. We encourage our students to take a broader view of medicine and understand the breadth of health care that is delivered within a team of health care professionals.
Rural medical students are encouraged to return to rural regions and inspire other students to consider a career in a thriving regional centre. Rural rotations are an exciting opportunity for students to expand their cultural and medical experience and discover a different lifestyle. The unique needs of rural and Indigenous communities also allow students to treat a spectrum of diseases, illnesses and health issues not represented in urban hospitals.
