Type of Accommodation
Hospital accommodation is available for up to twenty-four students. A variety of rental accommodation is also readily available in Wagga Wagga, including flats and houses.
Price Range
Hospital accommodation costs $38.00 per week (current January 2009). Rent is payable to the hospital cashier on a weekly basis. Units and houses are available for rent within the city of Wagga Wagga from around $100 per week upward.
Facilities
The hospital accommodation consists of fully furnished single rooms with bed, wardrobe, drawers, desk, chair, desk lamp, heater and fan are provided for each student. Fresh linen will be supplied on a weekly basis. A common living area is equipped with TV and video.The Kitchen is fully equipped with crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment, microwave, electric stoves, refrigerators and a dishwasher. It is the student's responsibility to keep bedrooms clean, and to tidy up after use of the kitchen and common areas. Common areas and the bathrooms are cleaned daily. Vacuum and cleaning products are available, as are full laundry and ironing facilities.
There are fast food outlets and coffee shops within walking distance of the hospital. There is also the Hospital Coffee Shop – open from 9am to 8pm each day.
Meals are available in the hospital staff cafeteria at a reasonable cost. Hours are:
Breakfast – 7.30am to 8.30am
Lunch – 12 noon to 1.30pm
Dinner – 5.00pm to 6.30pm
What to Bring
Students may wish to bring an additional doona during the winter months.
Proximity to Hospital and School
The hospital accommodation is located within the hospital grounds, around fifty metres from both the main hospital building and the clinical school. Rental properties are usually available within walking distance of the hospital.
Transport Availability and Requirements
There is a bus service around Wagga Wagga for travel from the hospital to the main shopping centre, which is located approximately two kilometres from the hospital. Wagga Wagga Base Hospital is located in Edward Street, (which is the Sturt Highway for those driving to Wagga), and is approximately one kilometre west of the railway station in a six story red brick building.
Long stay students renting privately beyond walking distance of the hospital, will need access to private transport as the bus service is irregular.

You will need to contact Lynette Arthur (details below) if you require accommodation. When you arrive you may pick up your keys from Wagga Wagga Base Hospital Emergency Department Reception anytime night or day over the weekend prior to the first day of placement. ID will be required.
