Rural Allied Health and Medical Society (RAHMS)
The Rural Allied Health and Medical Society (RAHMS) is a society for medical, optometry, psychology and social work students who have an interest in the many exciting opportunities offered in rural areas.
Some RAHMS members are from the country, others are from the city. Some plan to live in the country or at least work there for a while. Others are just curious about what rural health is.
What does RAHMS do?
RAHMS aims to:
- Provide positive experiences that convey what it is like to live and work in the country
- Meeting health science students from other universities
- Encourage students to think about a rural career
- Get students together who are interested in health issues in rural Australia, the concerns facing Indigenous Australians and international rural and remote health issues.
Why should I join?
There are many reasons!
- Maybe you are keen to get involved in the hot current politics of rural health and rural medical education.
- Perhaps you’d like the chance to meet health science students from other the many rural health clubs around Australia. See the National Rural Health Network (NHRN) website for further details.
- You may just want to come along on one of our heavily subsidised trips to rural NSW or listen to interesting speakers over a free lunch.
- Learn more about the Rural Clinical School with campuses in Albury Wodonga, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie and Wagga Wagga. These are places you may well visit during your clinical years.
Whatever your reasons, even if you’re just curious, RAHMS welcomes you to join up today!
