Governance
The UNSW Rural Clinical School is governed by the policies and procedures of UNSW. There is a Director/Head of School who is responsible for the overall running of the School and reports directly to the Dean, Faculty of Medicine.
Within the School are two divisions that reflect the various geographical areas of operation. The Greater Murray division has campuses in Wagga Wagga (headquarters of the School), Albury Wodonga and Griffith. The Mid North Coast division has campuses in Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie and Kempsey.
The School has a Business/Operations Manager who reports to the Director. This Business/Operations Manager is the senior administrator for the School and has responsibility for:
- Budget and finance management
- Human resource management and development
- Industrial relations
- Space management and development
- Liaison with media, government, University and community organisations
In each campus of the School the Campus Co-ordinator assists the Director in managing the campus. Their duties, in addition to their academic duties include:
- Supervision of the academic staff in the campus
- Representing the Director on hospital and local committees as appropriate
- Liaison with local doctors and organisations
- Ensuring the effective delivery and coordination of the academic and research programme
- Ensure that the education and research programmes are being delivered in a manner consistent with the philosophy of the School
- Directing committees in each campus, including the Learning Management Committee (LMC)
- Student accommodation and welfare
- Local arrangements for assessment and examinations
There is a School Executive Committee which is composed of the Director, Campus Coordinators, Business Manager and IT Coordinator. This committee meets regularly and is the peak body for decision making regarding the internal running of the School.
Each division of the School has a Community Advisory Board (CAB) which provides a forum for communication between the various stakeholders. The membership of the CAB will include representatives from the Federal Department of Health and Ageing, UNSW (ex officio Dean and Director), Area Health Service (ex officio, Area CEO), representatives from external local universities (Charles Sturt and Southern Cross) and community representatives. Meetings of the CAB are held annually.
